Deep ruby red wine from Portugal's Douro region. We have a rather complex wine on the nose which is excellent for this price. Aromas of spicy notes of blackberry, eucalyptus, pepper, mint, and a hint of vanilla due to maturation in new French oak barrels. On the palate, these complex elements are once again present, demonstrating the quality of this wine. A fairly long finish completes the picture. Be sure to also check out its big brother, the Vallegre reserva.
Serving with:
This wine pairs well with grilled dishes but also with various light cheeses that are soft and full of flavor. Serve at 14-16°C.
Storage:
This wine can certainly spend about 6 years in the cellar. This wine will evolve a bit but if you're looking for aging potential, you'd better look at its big brother, the reserva.
Note that this wine will show a slight sedimentation after a few years due to its intensity.
Additional Information:
The Douro Valley is one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world and is recognized as a UNESCO heritage site. Vallegre is a young and dynamic company that produces both Port wines and regular wines on various estates along the Douro. All vineyards are located on the right bank near the town of Pinhão. This Vallegre Branco is made from local grape varieties, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Sousão. Unknown to most of us, but that's what gives Portuguese wines an original touch. After fermentation, the wine ages for another 9 months in French oak barrels, with regular plunging of the skins into the juice (remontage) to give the wine a full flavor. Flavorful wine with aromas of forest fruits, and cherries. The taste is balanced and fruit-driven.
