Description

A brilliant, pale golden wine with crystal-clear brightness that gleams elegantly in the glass. On the nose, an expressive reflection of its limestone-rich terroir: fine flinty notes, subtle smokiness and a refined minerality typical of Pouilly-Fumé. These are complemented by fresh aromas of citrus zest, lime blossom and ripe gooseberries, enriched with white peach and delicate floral nuances.
On the palate, this Calcaire shows itself precise, pure and linear, exactly as a great limestone-grown Sauvignon Blanc should be. It is both lively and tense, yet gains beautiful depth and roundness from the old vines. The limestone terroir – interwoven with flint and marl – gives this wine its characteristic salinity, length and intensity. The mouthfeel is dry, fresh and highly refined, with a long, elegant finish where citrus, chalk and a touch of green apple linger beautifully.
4.2 Vivino

Serving:
Excellent with shellfish, seafood, refined fish dishes, sushi, grilled asparagus or fresh citrus-based salads. Also delicious with soft goat cheeses, where its mineral character pairs beautifully. Serve at 10–12°C for optimal aromatic expression; as the wine gently warms, it continues to open and develop.

Ageing:
This wine shows best in its youthful, fresh years. A few years of cellar ageing will make it rounder and more complex, with honeyed and tertiary notes, while its lively tension gradually softens.

Additional information:
The Domaine Pierre Marchand & Fils, located in Les Loges in the Loire Valley, traces its origins back to 1650, when the family settled here as winegrowers. The vines – on average 40 years old – are cultivated with minimal intervention. Nutrients or treatments are applied only when essential, keeping the expression of the terroir central. Thanks to Guyot pruning and spring green harvesting, yields remain low and quality remains high.

The Sauvignon Blanc here reveals its classic character: small, compact green clusters with concentrated aromas, ideal for the mineral Pouilly-Fumé style. Fermentation takes place slowly and coolly in stainless steel, without any oak ageing, allowing the pure, limestone-driven and smoky style to shine.
