Description

Dark ochre-red colored port added to wooden barrels. This port has beautiful strong aromas of dark black fruit, hazelnuts, and spicy undertones. In the mouth, you experience a very light sweet taste that comes across as especially smooth. You can smell the beautiful ripe black, more dried fruit such as blackberries and mulberries. This port has undergone 10 years of aging, giving it depth and a long finish. This is a port almost impossible to find on the market and bears the name of a well-known shipper (Antonio José Da Silva) who helped save port wine.
Da Silva Tawny 10 years old is a blend of old port wines from different harvests that matured in oak barrels, with an average age of 10 years. Bottle = 75cl


Serve with:

Serve this port between 9 to 14 degrees Celsius, and it pairs excellently with chocolate mousse but also with aged cheeses like Parmesan.
Note that there may be a slight sediment in the bottle. After opening, it will still be good for about 3 weeks, but store it cool, closed, and in the dark. It can also be served as an aperitif; in that case, serve it slightly colder.

Storage:
This port can certainly be stored for a while, but it will not evolve much further in the bottle.

Quinta do Noval: a decade of declarations - DecanterRed and white port is made from various grape varieties, with about 80 varieties in use. All of them grow on the steep slopes of the beautiful Douro Valley in Portugal. The prince of the port grape is the Touriga Nacional, but due to its natural low yield, it is rarely newly planted. Some other very good varieties include Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesca, Tinta Cão, and Tinta Amarela. 

Port wine is what we call a mutated wine. This means: a wine whose fermentation is prematurely halted by the addition of wine alcohol. By using this technique, not all sugars in the wine are converted into alcohol, creating the sweet taste of port. 
The quality of a port is reflected in the balance of fruit, flavor, and alcohol. A good port is never characterized by a burning taste but by a present and complex mouthfeel. 

Let's briefly place the name Antonio José Da Silva. You will find expensive vintage ports of Da Silva online. The reason is that Antonio bought this vineyard in the 1880s after the phylloxera crisis. He decided to start making port wine here again, thus contributing partially to the comeback of port wine.
Nowadays, this port is almost unavailable because this domain has now passed to Quinta do Noval. This is an equally iconic name that has existed since 1715. The history of Quinta do Noval is characterized by the action of visionaries:
António José da Silva, a port shipper from Porto, acquired Quinta do Noval in 1894, after the devastation caused by the grape phylloxera. He restored the property by replanting the vines. Since 1993, Quinta do Noval has been part of the international wine group AXA Millésimes. This group owns many large estates around the world.
