Description

In your glass, an orange wine with plenty of brilliance, yes, it exists too. This wine comes from Hungary, the birthplace of wine. As aromas, you will mainly detect lemon, ripe mandarin, pink peppercorns, grapefruit, orange, and almonds. In the mouth, you get an extra dimension with a bit of saltiness, orange flavors, and almonds. You'll notice it's a mouthful, which makes this wine complex. The finish rounds it off with a very light pleasant bitterness. If you want to know how orange wine is made, see below for additional features.

Serve with:
Superb with grilled goat cheese with pears and rosemary. Also pairs well with a fruit dish that's not overly sweet. Try it with Asian dishes, especially those lightly spicy. Serving it chilled in spring/summer makes it a very nice aperitif and will surely spark conversation. The view in the sun is beautiful.

Storage:
This wine is great to drink now; no need to store.

Additional Information:

Etyeki Kúria Borászat (Etyek): international, winery/wine bar kitchen ...Orange wine is made when the skins, as with red wine, are left to ferment for a certain period. In this wine, the skins had 14 days of maceration. Maceration is aided by pumping over the wine. After that, the wine was aged for 10 months in an old 2000-liter Hungarian wine barrel and partially in 300-liter new Hungarian barrels.

The Etyeki Kúria Winery was established on the Öreghegy (meaning Old Hill) of Etyek in 1996. From the very beginning, this winery has been known for respecting traditions and adopting an innovative mindset. As a significant milestone in their history, they were the first in the wine region to plant Pinot Noir vines to produce red wine. Their chief winemaker, Sándor Mérész, joined the team fourteen years ago. Since then, he has been shaping the unique style of their wines by combining local experiences with the latest research findings and his own international approach. Recognizing his professional work, Sándor has been one of the fifty nominees for the "Winemakers' Winemaker" award in Hungary every year since 2013.

The Vineyards | Originally two hectares, their vineyard area now covers a total of 54 hectares, divided into two wine regions: Etyek, where they grow the trio of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, and Sopron, where the main grape variety is Kékfrankos.

Their Sister Winery, the Esterházy Winery | In 2009, they began close cooperation with the Esterházy Winery in Burgenland, located near the Hungarian-Austrian border. As part of this collaboration, they mutually support each other on professional issues related to viticulture and oenology, in export activities, as well as in promoting their event venues and the programs they organize.

Development and Expansion | In the fall of 2011, they embarked on an extensive modernization and expansion project aimed at creating the necessary conditions for producing top international wines and ensuring economies of scale. They found a partner in the Hungarian BORD Architectural Studio. While preserving the characteristics of the landscape, they built their new processing and bottling plant above the traditional cellar, whose functional design enables gravity-driven grape processing and winemaking.

Unique Hospitality Spaces | Through the glass surfaces integrated into the structure of the building, visitors interested in winemaking can get almost a complete overview of the wine production process, from harvesting to bottling, while work can continue undisturbed in the cellar. They can welcome their guests in various unique locations where they organize wine tastings, as well as private and corporate events. Furthermore, their visitors can learn more about the wines and their story in their wine bar and on the hospitable terrace.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS
At Etyeki Mansion, they are committed to reducing their ecological footprint, so they opt for sustainable solutions wherever possible.

Conscious Architecture | Their modern winery, inaugurated in 2013, is partially built underground. This design allows them to utilize gravity at different steps of winemaking. It also provides natural insulation, enabling them to reduce their energy consumption.

Solar Energy | In 2019, they installed solar panels on several winery buildings to cover a third of their annual energy needs.

Green Cover and Biodiversity | They have planted a special seed mixture developed by the Ecological Agricultural Research Institute (ÖMKi) between the vineyards, which not only helps in the ongoing fight against soil erosion but also contributes to achieving greater biodiversity and a healthy soil structure.

Vegan and Vegetarian Friendly | Only plant-based protein (peas) and bentonite are used in fining; no preparations of animal origin are used.

Lightweight Bottles | They opt for the lightest possible bottles to reduce the environmental impacts of transportation.
