Description

This 2009 Colheita Port is a single-vintage port that aged for a long time in small oak casks, receiving at least seven years of wood aging before bottling. It develops a deep, dark brown color with rich aromas and complex flavors. On the nose, you find intense scents of overripe fruit such as plums and raisins, refined with notes of caramel and vanilla from the wood. Subtle hints of walnuts and figs add extra depth. On the palate, this Colheita is rich and balanced, with a soft, full texture and a long elegant finish. The combination of sweet ripe fruit, light wood notes, and silky structure makes it especially enjoyable to savor slowly.

4.2/5 Vivino

Storage:
This port is ready to be enjoyed. It can be stored for a few years but will not improve significantly.

Additional information:
Red and white port is made from various grape varieties; about 80 are used. All grow on the steep slopes of the beautiful Douro Valley in Portugal. The prince of port grapes is Touriga Nacional, but due to its naturally low yield, it is rarely replanted. Other excellent varieties include Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Cão, and Tinta Amarela. The varieties for white port are Malvasia Dorada, Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, and Rabigato.
Porto is a fortified wine, meaning its fermentation is stopped early by adding wine alcohol. This technique ensures not all sugars are converted to alcohol, creating the characteristic sweetness of port.
The quality of a port is defined by the balance of fruit, flavor, and alcohol. A good port is never recognized by a burning sensation, but by a present and complex mouthfeel.

The Casa (independent wine estate) de Santa Eufémia was founded in 1894 by Bernardo Rodrigues de Carvalho and is located on the left bank of the Douro at an altitude of 300 m, between Peso da Régua and Pinhão, in the heart of the oldest recognized wine region in the world: the Douro. The estate has 40 ha of vineyards comprising all the typical grape varieties for port wines. Slate soils and terraces form the typical landscape. Casa Santa Eufémia produces gems of port using the traditional method, but with the distinctive touch of the Carvalho family, who has managed the estate since its foundation. Casa de Santo Eufémia is currently led by Pedro Carvalho. Due to low production, this port is rarely found outside Portugal, but within the country it stands out for its exceptional quality and is highly appreciated.
