Description

A brilliant, brilliant white-yellow wine with golden reflections in the glass. The aromas include the oh-so-typical smoky notes, woody tones, and minerality. Additionally, there are citrus scents, but also gooseberries and other ripe berries. In the mouth, this wine is full and powerful but at the same time fresh and lively. This wine is made on a very specific terroir with flint, mixed with marl and clay. Combined with the fresh North Atlantic sea climate, it provides an ideal foundation for this Sauvignon Blanc. Wines from this domaine are consistently recognized in wine literature as top-notch for monocepage Sauvignon Blanc. The mouthfeel is dry and fruity with an elegant finish featuring hints of flint and ripe apple.

Serving:
Excellent with fish, all types of fish. Equally good with asparagus, shellfish, or goat cheeses. A very all-round wine but of high quality. Serve at 12°C; the taste will evolve as the wine warms. A top choice with seafood!

Storage:
This wine will be at its best in its early years. If it rests for a few years, it will lose its crisp touch but gain in elegance.

Additional Information:
Louis XIV was only twelve years old when the Marchand family of winemakers settled in Les Loges in 1650. Domaine Pierre Marchand & Fils is located in the village of Loges, in the Loire Valley. The unique composition of the soil in this area adds structure and minerality to the Sauvignon Blanc grape, and the entire process takes place on-site, from vinification to bottling. Eric, along with his brother Pascal, continues his father's work to produce a truly exceptional Pouilly Fumé.

On this family estate of 17 hectares, a minimal intervention system is employed. The soil is analyzed to determine if fertilizer is necessary, and treatments are only carried out if essential. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are pruned according to the simple Guyot system. Every year, green pruning and picking are done in spring to enhance quality. The power and yield of the vine are further reduced by using ground cover. The Sauvignon, an old grape variety, has undergone many changes over time and is now recognizable by its small green clusters with small and narrow berries reminiscent of quail eggs and green leaves with small leaves. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 18-20 days. There is no passage in wood.
