Description

Light red color in your glass with legs. On the nose, lots of red fruit like blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, wild strawberry, and blueberries. Additionally, spices, licorice, minerality, chocolate, violet, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, a velvety feel that is the hallmark of Pommard's quality and recognition. A long finish where the fruity elements linger first, followed by mineral notes. Truly a brilliant wine, but don't drink it too young.
4.2/5 on Vivino (no rating for 2022 yet)

Additional information:

Maison GIRAUD Frères, Meursault en Côte-d'OrDomaine LATOUR-GIRAUD is located in Meursault, in the most popular region of Burgundy, known for the Great White Wines of the Côte de Beaune. It specializes in white wines, which represent 85% of its production.

The history of Domaine LATOUR-GIRAUD spans three centuries, dating back to the late 17th century. The oldest known ancestor is Jean Latour-Boillot, born around 1680. The vineyard was already the main source of income. The continuous presence of the Latour family in the vineyard is evidenced during the French Revolution by Jean Latour-Mouquin, born in 1748, grandson of Jean Latour-Boillot.

The Giraud family, long established in Côte d'Or, founded a distillery around 1845 in the Meursault hospital. This distillery, active until 1914, produced Fine de Bourgogne, Marc de Bourgogne, and later the famous Cassis de Bourgogne. The union of the two families occurred in 1958, after the marriage of their children.

Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre LATOUR, who is responsible for wine production, vinification, aging, and marketing. He is assisted in his work by his wife Christine, who handles the administrative side.

The vineyard of Domaine LATOUR-GIRAUD covers approximately ten hectares and exclusively produces Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée wines, about 85% of which are white wines and 15% red wines.

The majority of the white vines are located in the five Premier Cru appellations of Meursault: Les Genevrières, Les Charmes, Les Perrières, Les Bouchères, and Le Poruzot.

With 2.5 hectares in Meursault Genevrières, Domaine LATOUR-GIRAUD is the largest owner of this beautiful Premier Cru. It also owns a Premier Cru plot on the northern edge of Puligny-Montrachet, in the Champs-Canet climate. The estate is completed by plots in the Meursault appellation such as Le Limozin, Les Narvaux, and Clos du Cromin.

The Domaine aimed to create its own vintage representing the Meursault appellation as a whole by combining various terroirs such as Les Vireuils, Les Pelles, Les Corbins, and Le Carrouge, and naming it after its two grandfathers: Charles Giraud and Maxime Latour.

The Domaine also owns a plot located in the Burgundy appellation area, where a Chardonnay cuvée is produced, characterized by the village of origin.

In red, the Domaine is much smaller but still very well located, as all the plots are classified as Premier Cru. The Domaine owns vines in Pommard, Pommard Refène 1er Cru, Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru, and Meursault Caillerets 1er Cru.

The commune of Pommard, located between Volnay and Beaune, has a total production area of 321 hectares, of which 122 hectares are classified as Premier Cru. Pommard is a very old village, built on the site of an ancient Christian temple, erected by the Gauls and dedicated to Pomona, the patron goddess of fruits. In the year 1005, the village's name was "Polmarium" or "Polmarca." La Cuvée Carmen represents the blend of two vineyards on the far east of the village. The wine is characterized by aromas of blackberry and blueberry, accompanied by notes of currant.
