Description

Beautiful, bright ruby red color. A balanced and seductive nose that perfectly combines notes of fresh fruit and wood. Red fruit and other berries are also present on the palate. A fleshy attack with impressions of cherries, strawberries, and berries, complemented by hints of cedarwood, leather, coffee, and a touch of vanilla. The very pleasant and perfectly balanced style continues into the long, velvety finish.
 4.1/5 Vivino

To be served with:
Classic meat dishes and French cuisine in general. Tenderloin with sauce, fine game such as venison and doe, coq au vin, lightly seared foie gras, pork tenderloin, and veal. Decanting this wine is definitely recommended! Serve at 15-18°C.

Storage:
A guaranteed aging potential of 8–15 years, with some people storing it up to 20 years in a proper wine cellar. The wine will continue to evolve, becoming rounder and smoother without losing its powerful flavor. However, the wine was not originally made for long-term aging.

Additional Information:

80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Each plot undergoes separate fermentation in concrete vats with regular pump-overs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 14 to 16 months in a mix of new oak (24%), single barrels (10%), double barrels (12%), large wooden vats, and amphorae (54%). Then the blending takes place, and the wine is bottled.
Climate
A temperate maritime climate influenced by nearby flowing rivers. The Dordogne provides extra cooling, while long stretches of forest protect the vineyards from cold sea air.

Soil
Sandy soil with white clay. Organically cultivated and only treated with environmentally friendly sprays. A separate vineyard with old vines and an ideal sunny location.

As early as the 12th century, the Knights of Saint James of Jerusalem provided lodging here to pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela and protected them from robber attacks. The name Commanderie comes from the order of knights based in Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol, who established hospitals and homes to protect pilgrims.

Until 2019, Château de la Commanderie was owned by the Meffre family. Gabriel Meffre bought the estate in 1956, and Claude took the helm in 1996. Recently, in 2019, Karine de Colbert purchased it.
The estate covers 39 hectares, of which 29 hectares are planted with vines, surrounding the property.
The entire vineyard consists of two soil types: the upper part lies on sandy gravel over variegated clay, and the middle and lower parts lie on sandy gravel over deep clay.
The 29.6 ha are composed as follows: 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon; the average age of the vineyard is 36 years.

What are the changes made to this wine?
New state-of-the-art vinification equipment and methods.
The soil has been fully worked, and every other row is grassed. The estate is working toward HVE3 certification and an organic orientation.

Packaged in a cardboard box of 6 bottles.

Made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
