Château Kefraya 'Les Coteaux' is a characterful red blend from the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, sourced from vineyards located between 970 and 1100 m altitude. The terroirs combine limestone, clay, and loam, offering optimal drainage and sunlight for ripening the grapes.
The blend consists of Syrah (44%), Cabernet Sauvignon (28%), Cinsault (12%), Tempranillo (10%), and Marselan (6%). Hand-harvested, followed by optical sorting, slow fermentation in concrete vats at 24–25 °C, preserving fruit and finesse.
After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months, partly in French barriques (38% new, 62% second fill), and partly in concrete tanks. Bottled at the estate after 28 months.
Nose: expressive and elegant, with aromas of black cherry, cassis, roasted coffee, spices (pepper, clove), and a hint of vanilla.
Taste: full and balanced, juicy fruit, fine tannins, spicy length with well-integrated oak. Long, harmonious finish.
4.1/5 Vivino
Food Pairing
Château Kefraya 'Les Coteaux' is a versatile food wine and pairs well with richly structured dishes. Try with:
- Grilled or roasted red meats (entrecôte, rack of lamb) – beautifully complements the oak and spice.
- Stews like boeuf bourguignon or lamb navarin – the solid structure matches ripe fruit notes.
- Game dishes such as venison or roe deer with wild mushrooms – the wine’s earthy character supports the flavors.
- Cheeses such as Comté, aged Gouda or blue cheeses – the saltiness contrasts beautifully with the fruity body.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Decanting is recommended, especially for younger bottles.
Aging Potential
This cuvée is drinkable now but also has excellent aging potential. Over time, the wine develops extra layers and softness:
- Young (0–3 years): ripe fruit, spicy freshness, vibrant acidity.
- Mid-aged (4–7 years): rounded tannins, more complexity and oak integration.
- Mature (8–12 years): notes of leather, cedar, dried fruits, and a smooth texture.
Optimal drinking window: 2024–2035. Store at 13–15 °C in a dark, stable cellar.
More about the Winery
Château Kefraya was founded in 1951 and has grown into one of Lebanon’s leading estates, with 300 hectares of high-altitude vineyards in the Western Bekaa.
The estate works sustainably, without irrigation, using optical sorting machines, concrete fermentation tanks, and amphorae. Since 2022, it has been fully certified organic.
Les Coteaux is a tribute to one of Kefraya's first bottlings (1979), combining terroir expression with modern precision winemaking.
Motto: “Un terroir, une âme, un grand vin.”
