The wine shows an intense, inky black / deep ruby red color with garnet reflections. The aroma is dominated by ripe dark fruits — think plums, blackberries, and black cherries — complemented by subtle floral notes (violets), fine forest floor or undergrowth nuances, and mild spices. Additionally, refined wood & flint notes emerge: toasted wood, dark chocolate, some coffee beans, and a light smokiness. On the palate, the wine is powerful, rich, and full-bodied, with ripe, supple and well-integrated tannins. The taste mirrors the nose: dark fruit, subtle earthy or forest notes, hints of spices and empty oak (wood / cedar / tobacco / chocolate / earth), providing depth and elegance.
The finish is long and persistent, with minerality or a slight “forest floor / earthy” memory.
Vivino 4.0/5
- Roasted or grilled red meats — steak, côte de bœuf, lamb.
- Game or wild birds (deer, wild boar, pheasant), or dishes with mushrooms or rich sauces.
- Strong cheeses (semi-hard or hard cheeses) — the fruit and spice aromas complement the cheese perfectly.
- Also with pasta or stews with tomato, onions, garlic: the dark fruit + spices make a great match.
Ageing potential:
Cellar potential of 8–10 years for sure, some store it up to 15 years in a good wine cellar. The wine will continue to evolve, becoming rounder and softer without losing its powerful flavor.

History & backgroundChâteau Lalande de Gravet is a traditional Bordeaux estate located in the heart of the prestigious Saint‑Émilion Grand Cru appellation. The winery combines classical Bordeaux traditions with a modern approach to winemaking. The estate is renowned for its consistent quality and elegant wines that perfectly reflect the typical style of Bordeaux’s right bank.
Terroir & vineyards
The château has vineyards on gently rolling terrain with a rich mix of clay, sand, and gravel. The soils provide optimal drainage and natural concentration of aromas in the grapes. The vineyards are carefully maintained, and grapes are often hand-harvested to maximize quality. Merlot is the dominant variety, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and occasionally a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Philosophy & vinification
The winery strives for a perfect balance of fruit, structure, and finesse. Fermentation occurs separately by grape variety, after which the wines age for 18–24 months in French and American oak barrels. This combination of craftsmanship, terroir, and modern techniques produces wines that are both immediately accessible and excellent for further aging.
Wine character
Lalande de Gravet wines are known for their intense ruby-red color, complex aromas of ripe cherries, berries, plums, cedarwood, and a subtle touch of chocolate. They offer a full, elegant flavor structure, soft yet well-integrated tannins, and a long, harmonious finish. Ideal to pair with red meat, game, or rich cheeses, but also delightful on their own.
International recognition
Although a relatively small estate, Château Lalande de Gravet has won several awards and medals at regional and international wine competitions, highlighting its quality and reputation.
