Description

Carignan grapes produce a deep red wine with a fruity yet robust body. This wine is made from 40-50 year old vines. The small yield ensures an intense flavor palette. It is mainly the intense black fruits, such as blackberries and blueberries, that set the tone with a hint of vanilla from the light oak aging. A medium-length clean finish makes this wine very balanced and offers an excellent price-quality ratio.
3.8/5 on Vivino

Serving:
Very tasty with a standard BBQ, with lamb, and other lighter red meat dishes.
The wine is, however, soft and can be better enjoyed on its own without a specific meal. Because it does not have many tannins, certainly not overpowering, it is good with many hard cheeses and some white mold cheeses. Serve between 16-17°C.

Storage:
Young drinking is optimal. Store for a maximum of 5-6 years.

Additional Information:
This wine was tasted at the tasting weekend in April 2024, and many customers ordered it.
The winemaker Alain Grignon represents the new France in the wine sector. He knows that today's wine drinker is demanding and no longer satisfied with average wines. After discovering the "new world," people are looking for new taste surprises, a new type of red wine. Challenging and glowing aromas, a juicy mouthfeel, wine made to please.....
Alain, an unusually sober Frenchman, with a broad perspective and an "open mind" towards the rest of the wine world. Not hindered by excessive patriotism, but with a curious interest in what is happening in the rest of the world. We can always remember what Alain asked during a visit to our country; "What does the wine-drinking consumer expect at this moment in Belgium? What do they find interesting outside of France...?"

He does not forget that price and quality must go hand in hand. This is a top wine in its price range.
He has brought together many artisanal winemakers from regions such as Minervois, Fitou, Corbières, Roussillon, Faugères, Limoux, Gascogne, etc., who still share his vision today.

The Pays d'Oc stretches over the four departments of Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, Hérault, and Gard along the French Mediterranean coast. Two hundred kilometers of beach and a sea of vineyards bathed in the sun characterize the Languedoc-Roussillon region, as well as the steep slopes of the Pyrenees, wooded valleys, the wild garrigue, the lagoons (Etangs), and the Mediterranean Sea. In this landscape of natural wealth, the vines thrive under ideal conditions, characterized by the Mediterranean climate, salty sea breeze, and poor soils. As a region naturally ideal for viticulture, the Pays d'Oc has adapted its vineyards to the cultivation of various French grape varieties. This diversity defines the character of Pays d'Oc.

The grapes come from vines around the village of Cruzy, at an average altitude in the western Hérault north of Narbonne, and - this is the secret - the vines are 50 years old. Much Languedoc Carignan gives a kind of raw harshness to blends. The variety is famously productive, especially in its youth, and the appellation regulations in Languedoc and Roussillon carefully limit the proportions of Carignan in wines such as Corbières, Minervois, St-Chinian, and Faugères. But old Carignan vines can deliver real quality - and value, as this wine demonstrates.
