Description

A deep red wine with a fine purple rim. On the nose, this young Malbec greets you with aromas of blackberries, dark fruit, light black pepper, chalk, and violet. On the palate, this is a smooth wine with a certain funky touch. This makes this soft wine playful and interesting. It has not undergone any oak aging but has been matured for 6 months. The 20-day maceration was done at low temperatures to extract as much fruit and aroma as possible. No sulfites were added during the winemaking process.

 3.7/5 on Vivino

Serving suggestions:
Serve between 13-15 degrees. Delicious with a steak with pepper sauce, but also goes well with a piece of tuna with a herb crust.

Storage:
This wine is not made for aging but can certainly be stored for 4 years in the cellar. However, this 100% Malbec will not change much.
Additional information:
Château Lamartine is located on the far western side of the Cahors Appellation, on the oldest terraces of the Lot Valley. On these clay and limestone terroirs, the 37 hectares face south, which guarantees perfect ripeness for the Malbec grape.
For four generations, the Gayraud family has given the utmost care to winegrowing. This is the key to achieving a pure expression of the terroirs. In 2016, Alain and Brigitte passed the torch to their children.
“Our brother-and-sister tandem is our strength, and our terroirs are our wealth. Our idea: ever cleaner winegrowing, ever finer wines.” LISE & BENJAMIN

In the southwest, north of Toulouse and east of Bordeaux, lies the Cahors appellation. Halfway between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, the appellation benefits from an ideal microclimate for the ripening of Malbec.
The soil, made of clay and limestone, guarantees freshness in the wines.

In the late 1960s, about fifteen winemakers united to advocate for the creation of an AOP. Edouard, the great-grandfather of Lise and Benjamin, was one of them.

They finally obtained it in 1971. Château Lamartine is still very proud to be part of the Cahors Appellation.

In recent years, the appellation has continued to attract attention and is now recognized as the original terroir of Malbec.
The new challenge for Cahors is the classification of the various terroirs. Today, we are just at the beginning with the distinction between valley and Causse terroirs.

The Cahors appellation, something to keep an eye on...
